Supervisee testimonials

When I was still an associate LPC, I was about halfway through my required 3,000 hours and decided that I wanted to have a second supervisor for additional feedback as well as guidance. So I sent my feelers out into the supervisor pool and spoke to several supervisors along the way. Ultimately (and thankfully), I decided to employ the wonderful Kathy Crane.

There were several reasons behind this decision that I never once regretted. First, during my “interview” with Kathy she was so warm and inviting that I immediately felt comfortable with her. Second, Kathy clearly described the expectations she had for a supervisee and how my role would look in her private practice. Third, I was already working full-time at a non-profit so I was interested in taking on clients after hours at her private practice so I could get a good feel for who I was as a therapist in that realm but also to see the true scope of working at a private practice. It is important to note that during other “interviews” with potential supervisors, the vast majority of them were not comfortable with me utilizing their office space to see clients let alone them being available for supervision in the event a crisis arose after their normal working hours (which is when I was planning on seeing clients). Kathy’s genuine approach and openness to allowing me into her sacred private practice ultimately made my decision very easy.

During my time under Kathy’s supervision, I saw a wide array of clients: private-pay adults and teenagers, court-mandated teens affiliated with the Rockwall system, and insurance clients. Kathy thoroughly explained the process for each of these and provided me with a sound foundation of how to proceed with them. She even helped me get set up with systems to where I could take the insurance clients and be properly covered in all aspects of that portal/process. Kathy was also available during times of crisis or high-risk clients reporting concerns during sessions (ie: SI/HI, possible abuse, etc.). Not once did Kathy leave my outreach unanswered, even at later hours in the evening. I always felt extremely comfortable and supported during my supervision with Kathy and I knew that I had a highly competent clinician in my corner.

In terms of supervision, myself and other supervisees met on a regular basis to discuss our clients and also to review important information regarding being a soon-to-be licensed clinician. We would learn about somatic techniques, accurate note taking, anger management tools, supporting couples in therapy, the different brain developments in adolescents/teens, read articles or even books that offered clear guidance or support for specific clients, and so much more. We never repeated supervision topics (unless clinically necessary) and we never “just watched YouTube videos” for the duration of our supervision hour(s).

Even with more simple aspects such as signing hour logs monthly, payroll, perfecting treatment plans and goals, Kathy was always available and thorough. Not once did Kathy forget to sign a log, provide payment, or offer support during treatment planning or note submission.

With all of this being said, I will forever be not only grateful for Kathy’s supervision but I will also always recommend her to anyone looking for a supervisor - or even looking to join a private practice as a licensed clinician. Even now as a fully licensed and practicing LPC, I will reach out to Kathy for referrals, guidance with more “tricky” clients or situations, and even just to catch up. Thank you so much Kathy for all of your support and for helping me become the clinician I am today!

Sincerely,

Kelly Crocker LPC #83140
